How does bioprinting contribute to a more sustainable society?


  • I think that like all medical advances, the effect on society depends on our ability to make it available to the largest number of people, which means reducing the cost and other barriers that limit underserved communities and nations.

  • According to UN's "17 goals to transform our world", the bioprinting businees can contribute to sustainable development by the following goals:

    Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well.bering for all at all ages.
    Bioprinting is a tool for the worlds medical researchers to develop e.g. customized cancer treatment. That is today. Later, when functional, synthesized and transplantable organ can be made with boiprinting, operation queuing time will be reduced for the very ill.

    Goal 8: Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all.
    A growing industry means new quality jobs and an increasing economic growth.

    Goal 9: Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all.
    Work opportunities, investments and a balanced consuming makes the basic social contract underlying democratic societies, if it is done in a resource effective way. Manufacturing is an important employer, where every one job in manufacturing creates 2.2 jobs in other sectors. Therefore growth of the bioprinting business contributes to a functioning society.
